5 Ways To Find Your Life’s Purpose

One of the greatest gifts we can give ourselves is to live, work and play in a way that is fully aligned with who we are meant to be and in harmony with our true values.

When we do this, life somehow seems less of a struggle, and we have more ease and ’flow’.

I remember when I was a little girl, I’d tell everyone I wanted to be a teacher. I loved school and helping people, and this felt ‘aligned’ to who I was. Somehow, as I grew into adulthood, my life took a different path. After having my children, I looked into teaching French to adults (there’s teaching again!), before I ended up working for 16 years in Local Government. Even during this time, I found the bits of the job I enjoyed the most were when I was mentoring new colleagues.

I thought I’d put my yearnings to ‘teach’ and ‘coach’ others behind me when I made the switch to become a holistic therapist in 2019 but… oh no, the universe had other ideas!

Although I do love practising Reiki and Indian Head Massage, it has only been since I trained as a Mindfulness teacher, sleep and life coach that I have truly felt I am doing what I was always meant to do in life. I love seeing the breakthroughs my clients make and how simple changes can make big differences in their lives with my guidance and support.

I have found my life’s purpose! Or should I say… my purpose for this stage of my life?

So, here are five thing you should do this week to help find your life’s purpose.

1 — I recommend spending some time this week with a notebook and pen and pondering the question as to whether you are truly living your life’s purpose?

2 — Write down what you’d love to do in life if money and other commitments weren’t a consideration? Don’t try and force an idea, simply sit quietly, focus on your breath and just allow thoughts to float into your mind and then melt away again.

3 — If it’s not an option to change careers right now then think about how you might still live this purpose in some smaller way – in a volunteering role, with your children or grandchildren or just as a hobby.

4 — If you’re already living your purpose, then great. If not, then don’t beat yourself up about it. Lots of people don’t find their true purpose until much later in life and that’s ok – it’s a journey. I’ve only just found mine and I’m nearly 50!

  • Author Laura Ingalls-Wilder only wrote ‘The Little House on The Prairie’ at age 65.

  • Designer Vera Wang didn’t enter the fashion industry until age 40.

  • Ronald Reagan was a Hollywood actor before becoming US President aged 69.

5 — Read this quote by Maru Dunbar, to motivate and inspire you to find your life’s purpose.

“We are each gifted in a unique and important way. It is our privilege and our adventure to discover our own special light.” - Mary Dunbar

I’d love to know if you’ve identified your purpose in life yet and whether you feel you are living that purpose? I would love to know your thoughts, so feel free to contact me.

If you need some help to figure it out, let’s book a one to one coaching session.
